I remember being a little one, waking up in my military-housing bedroom (with the peculiar inescapable sense o transience--"you'll be stationed somewhere else soon"--and bland utility common to all on-base housing I've eve seen), running to Mom and Dad's room so I could sleep i their bed. I don't know for sure that it would have helped but I think it's a safe bet I'd have felt less lonely and scare if my own bed had actually looked friendly. (Also, th extra-wide platform would have made a fantastic Matchbo Le Mans.
